The new model
By KBarker on Apr 10, 2011 in The Humanitarian Hub
When Frederick Smith developed the concept and model of a Hub and Spoke system for transporting packages throughout America, many laughed. Put some packages on a plane, fly them to Memphis TN, then load them on another plane and fly them somewhere else? Dumb idea!
On the first night, when all 6 aircraft flew into Memphis, there was a total of 17 packages to off-load and re-load.
Today, Federal Express has a huge fleet of aircraft operating globally and their name of FedEx is used as a verb – to FedEx a package. None laugh now!
Since then, many airlines have copied the model, turning airports into HUBS. They fly passengers in from all parts of the country, or internationally, and reload them onto other aircraft, to maximize efficiency.
Global Flying Hospitals is using a similar model, but with a huge difference, to create the world’s first Humanitarian Hub at a major airport complex – choice to be announced.
This Humanitarian Hub is to manufacture products for developing countries. Products which suffering people desperately need, as sanitation, water purification, solar heating and power, emergency shelters, field medical clinics and more.
Many manufacturers have stepped up to join this Hub. They will not only construct, but showcase their products to the world in annual Expos, Conferences and Exhibitions … while supplying many of the world’s humanitarian charities, governments and other groups.
Connecting the Humanitarian Hub to the world, GFH is developing Forward Hubs. These forward bases are being established in Africa, Asia, Sth. America and the Middle East, where stockpiling of equipment and resources are to take place, so GFH can load its cargo aircraft and be at the seat of a natural disaster or emergency, or in supplying other charities, at a moment’s notice.
Keep tuned to this Post to learn when the new HUB and Forward Bases media coverage and launches will take place .
Lots of breaking news coming!
